Need Dessert? How about some HUMBLE PIE??

God has promised to give grace to the humble, while He opposes the proud 1st Peter 5:5: You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE. Therefore, we must confess and put away pride. If we exalt ourselves, we place ourselves in opposition to God who will, in His grace and for our own good, humble us. But if we humble ourselves, God gives us more grace and exalts us Luke 14:11: "For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." James gives us a recipe for humble pie in James 4:8-9: James 4:8-9 NASB Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (9) Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom. He doesn’t stop here as there is a joy in eating this Humble Pie so to speak. It’s found verse 10: (10) Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you. That’s right, humble yourself and be exalted! Both James and the Apostle Paul partook in the dessert of Humble Pie. Paul, despite the great gifts and understanding he had received, saw himself as the “least of the apostles” and the “chief of sinners.” 1 Timothy 1:14-16 NASB and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus. (15) It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all. (16) Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life. Jesus led the way, humbling himself for us. Look where it got Him… Philippians 2:5-11 NLT The Humbling… You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. (6) Though He was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. (7) Instead, He gave up His divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, (8) He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death on a cross. The result… (9) Therefore, God elevated Him to the place of highest honor and gave Him the name above all other names, (10) that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, (11) and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Join me this Sunday for breakfast at 8:30 and His word at 10:30. Who knows, maybe someone will bring humble pie! And, I will eat the biggest slice. Or, maybe the whole pie! Love to all, Pastor Mike
